Update ~ February 22-26, 2016

Celebrating Success
Thank you to all who have sent photos of the many students who make your day...keep them coming. Also, when you have some good news to share, please drop me an e-mail or a post-it or a note in my box, so I can share all the amazing things happening all around us at CHS.

Where oh where have the ELOs gone?...
Some Collaborative Teams (CTs) submitted Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs) before winter break, others requested additional time, while others felt the list of ELOs for the courses they teach needed no further refinement.  Cris and I have been reviewing the ELOs as they come in. At this time we would like to put in one last request for all CTs to submit the current list of ELOs, with the exception of those who submitted in December or more recently.  If your team is requesting feedback or editing, please indicate this in the communication to Cris or me. Our hope is to have this process completed at the conclusion of this year.  Next steps will be to examine current CSAs to ensure they are aligned with our stated ELOs.
Please submit via Google Docs, hard copy or an attachment to e-mail.

Safety & Security
There has been a bit of confusion about the request to have all doors closed during the school day.  I will try to clear that up here.  Recently the new State Fire Marshal met with assistant superintendent Bob Kuhn to review fire code regulations. From this meeting an updated set of requirements emerged, one being that all Classroom doors must be closed (unlocked), but closed during the school day.  I cringe when I have to ask you to do this, as it is contrary not only to the Lock Down and Shelter in Place guidelines, it also conflicts with the spirit of collaboration and positive school climate that we work so hard to uphold.  Anyway, for now (Ed and I are still arguing this one) please make sure your doors are closed during the school day.

IEP Meetings
Teacher input is critical for a successful IEP Meeting.  Thank you to all who attend regularly.  It is always best if the Gen Ed Teachers can be there in person, but if you are unable to attend, please remember to provide information about the student's progress or lack there of, to the case manager prior to the IEP Meeting.

Classroom Visits
As we complete the first round of formal observations, CHS Admin hopes to be more visible, popping in and out of classrooms again.  This year we have been using the guidelines of The Thoughtful ClassroomTeacher Effectiveness Rubric to help guide and focus the walkthroughs.  Please remember these are informal walk throughs and not part of the formal evaluation process. This spring we are focusing on the rubric's Essential Question; How does the teacher motivate students to do their best work and inspire the love of learning?
