Update~October 28-November 1, 2013

Celebrating Success
Not only do we have a school full of excellent teachers, we have a school full of heroes. I cannot thank you enough for the quick response to Joleen's call for help last week when a fight broke out in front of school. I was deeply touched to see so many teachers swiftly uniting and heading out to help. Thank you everyone!  This is just one of the many reasons, I am so proud to be the principal of Coconino High school.
A special thank you to Carrie Johnson and team for all your efforts to ensure a smooth round of AIMS. Great job, thank you!

Law Related Education
Another point of light at CHS is Officer Ed Vesley. Ed's position is grant funded and although he does many things, his primary responsibility is to teach law related information to our students. In order to for us to keep the funding we have to be sure Ed is visiting classrooms and working directly with students. Please contact Ed to schedule time for him to teach in your classroom.

Mix it up
On Wednesday, October 30, CHS is participating in Mix It UP at Lunch Day.  This is a nationwide day of encouraging all of us to set aside stereotypes we may have, step out of our comfort zone, and sit with someone new for lunch.  Please help support this by talking it up with your students.  Mix It Up is October 30 at CHS. FOR Club is coordinating logistics and advertising, LINKS are dining in, and Student Council is including Mix It Up at Lunch in their Spirit Week calendar of events!!!

Halloween
It is fine if students want to come to school in costume, but dress code still applies. Please share this with your students. Full face paint and hats will not be permitted. If you are planning to dress in costume please help set the example, please do not wear hats or head coverings etc. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.

Exciting News
Phase one of the implementation of mobile devices for the secondary level is in the near future. After several meetings, focused discussion and comparison of both the Chromebook and iPad features, the iPad was selected as the device for implementation at the secondary level.
F.U.S.D. middle and high schools will be receiving several full ipad carts (with 30 ipads on each cart) this year. The lingering question is which departments will be on the receiving end during phase 1 implementation?  If you have an interest in participating in the first roll out, please let me know.

Heads up
This is Coconino's year to go through the accreditation process. This requires schools to critically evaluate their vision, strategies, priorities, leadership, and programs and resources.  The process of earning and maintaining accreditation requires that we form various committees to examine our school system and develop goals and related actions. Our accreditation review will take place the week after spring break, but we will begin forming committees in December and our work will begin after winter break. I will let you all know what the focus will be for each committee as soon as I know, but wanted to give you a heads up.
