Update ~ September 8-11, 2015

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, welcome back!

Common Summative Assessments (CSAs)
Here's the scoop from F.U.S.D. Director of Assessment and research, Robert Hagstrom ...
  • This year CSAs will be used for evaluation purposes.  This allows FUSD to be in compliance with SB 1040 requirements and TPEC Policies.
  • CSAs may be used for final exam if the teacher so desires.
TPPP (TP3)
I have been asked numerous questions about whether or not certain activities are eligible for TP3 hours. According to the FUSD guidelines, the list below are categories that are automatically eligible.  If you are participating in an activity that does not fall under the categories below, but feel might be eligible, I am happy to discuss the possibility of TP3 hours with you.

* Committee membership and work – school, district, or state
* Accreditation Team Activity
* National Board Certification
* Presenter or facilitator for district staff development
* Participation beyond the 24 hours (for pay) professional development, district sponsored
* Club sponsorship
* District wide content area specialists/ department meetings
* Parental engagement – home/school activities, parent nights, home visits
* Tutoring students or test preparation
* Student focused meetings – 504, IEP, SST, IDM, GDM
* Teacher mentor
* Other activities mutually agreed to in advance by teacher and site administrator

For your planning
Wednesday, October 14, we will follow an abbreviated six period day (Due to 10/15 & 16, no school for Fall Break)
Thursday, November 12, we will follow a regular six period day, no pathways (Due to 10/11 no school for Veteran's day)
Please mark your calendars

Counselor's Corner
The CHS Counselors are excited to announce that they have started their Education Career Action Plans (ECAP) with all 9th and 12th grade students. The web-based portal, Naviance is used to help guide students toward college and or career preparedness, submitting college application materials and tracking submitted applications.
This week on Wednesday and Thursday counselors will be working on ECAPS with Jessie O’Keefe, Scott Dendy, and Terry Wilson. Please do not send students to the counseling office on these days.
Also this week, on Tuesday, September 8, Mrs. Lyons will be taking a group of students who have an interest in sports related careers to the Career Day with the D-Backs.  And, Dual Enrollment (DE) testing will take place after school this week for students still needing to test.
Lastly, all are invited to attend a leadership presentation on Friday Sept. 11 by The United States Marine Corp; the topic for the presentation  is “Leadership in the Workplace and Community.”
Please e-mail Donna Lyons if you would like to bring your class.
