We are off to a great start of the new school year. Thank you for your care and attention to developing your Professional Growth and Classroom Management plans. Our students are in good hands.
Observations/Evaluations
One of our professional goals as an admin team is to be in your classrooms more frequently throughout this school year. Although we have not yet made into every classroom, we have had the pleasure of being in many and we have enjoyed every minute! It is such a pleasure to be able to pop in and watch the teaching and learning happening in each classroom. During our visits, we will do our best to be as least disruptive as possible and to provide feedback in some form. Feedback may come in the form of a post-it note, a follow up e-mail, or a conversation after our visit. While frequent classroom visits and timely feedback is an in-house goal, it is also something that our accreditation "Priority Improvement Goal" requires of us based on accreditation external review findings. The Priority Improvement Goal states: "CHS will develop and implement a comprehensive evaluation process that includes well defined levels of performance in student learning, professional growth and job performance and a system designed to provide regular follow up of targeted growth for certified employees." (What a mouth full!)
So, what does this mean for you and for us? It means that we will utilize an observation protocol known as The Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Effectiveness Framework to guide our informal walk-through observations. This protocol offers question prompts to help focus our informal observations. *Please note that when you plan for, and when we are in your classrooms for, your Formal Teacher Performance Evaluations we will be using the TPEC tool and your formal evaluation will be based on the criteria outlined in TPEC 4.0.
In order to be on the same page regarding observations, walk-throughs and guiding our practice as a community, our first guiding question is How does the teacher organize the classroom to enhance learning and establish rules and procedures that clarify expectations? In order to answer this question, we will first read each teacher's Classroom Management Plan. This will help us focus observations and have a better understanding of the strategies, rhythms and routines we are seeing. When we are in your classrooms we will be looking to see how the plan is working.
Over the next several weeks, we will continue to look for answers to this question and evidence to support those answers. When we move to the next guiding question I will let you all know by including the question in the Panther Report.
Thank you and on behalf of the Admin Team, we are looking forward to continued time in your classrooms, and meaningful conversations about what we have seen and what is working for you.
