Last week as I was driving over Cedar Hill, I looked over at CHS and thought to myself what a beautiful school, both inside and out. Our students are so fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated group of teachers, and staff. What a great first week, thank you to each and everyone for setting the tone for a spectacular school year. Thank you for helping to bring our vision of Creating and maintaining a vibrant school community that exemplifies academic excellence and model citizenship, to fruition.
Instructional Practices
There is a comprehensive on-line resource for teachers and schools called Expeditionary Learning Network (ELN). One of the resources is a host of protocols and procedures intended to help increase student engagement and support deep learning. I'm sure you have heard, and many of you use, a strategy known as Ticket In/Out. I like the step by step description of ELN offers, so I thought I would share this with you. Click here for the Admit/Exit Ticket Protocol.
Pep Rally
Our enthusiastic student council has planned a short prep rally this Thursday, 8/13 at the end day during study hall. The purpose of the pep rally is to generate excitement, school spirit and pride. The rally will be held in the large gym. We will make an announcement at 1:50pm for everyone to make their way to the gym and the pep rally will start at 2:00pm.
Student Schedules
The counselors have been working with students who have incomplete schedules to fill holes and fix schedules in need of attention. They have also been creating schedules for newly enrolled students. This week they will begin calling students for reasons other than incomplete schedules. Please remember to welcome all students into your classes and do not send students to the counseling office unless they have been called by the office. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through necessary schedule adjustments and work to meet the needs of everyone and work to balance class loads. THANK YOU CHS Counselors and everyone in the counseling office.
Common Summative Assessments (CSAs)
The window for CSAs opens on Monday, August 10. Please see your Department Chair or contact Cris Holmes with questions.
