Update ~ March 23-27, 2015

Welcome back!  Hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable spring break and are looking forward to an exciting final quarter of the school year. 

Celebrating Success
Congratulations to CHS Sophomore student, Jessica Han. Just before Spring Break Jessica placed second-in a field of many strong competitors at the Northern Arizona Poetry Out Loud competition. She moved on to the state level with a strong, sophisticated performance and placed fourth in the state.  Congrats Jessica!
Congratulations also to our two CHS Students, John Benedict and Ethan Holloway who recently earned the distinguished honor of "Eagle Scout".  We have Ethan to thank for the painting of the hallway and the mural that now adorns the entrance to the teacher's lounge. This was Ethan's final eagle scout project which included the recruitment of the mural artist, his mom Kim, to paint the beautiful aspen trees on the west wall of the walkway.

More Good News
Each week Tadd runs a synergy report that identifies students with 10 or more unexcused absences in a five day period.  We typically have over a dozen students meeting this criteria. The good news is that just before spring break we had only one name on the list.  Woo hoo! Thank you all for your work to communicate with our students and parents about the importance of attendance at school each and every day.   The challenge will be keeping this trend going throughout the spring quarter.

Awesome Awesomeness
Cris and I had a chance before the break to wander in and out of a few classrooms listening for questions posed during instruction.  Congratulations to Jon Edwards for upping the rigor in his classes by asking questions that challenge students to think deeply and respond thoughtfully about what they're learning.

Reminder
Our Spring Testing Extravaganza begins on March 30.  All  9, 10 and 11 English Teachers as well as Algebra 1 &2, and Geometry Teachers will attend the mandatory iPad/Test Preparation Training on March 25, at 2:00pm in room 314. Please mark your calendars.

Amanda Stalvey is offering a special iPad Course for Plicker and QuickKey, Thursday, March 26, 3:30-5:30pm in her classroom #704.  The course is in TNL, register using course #48874.

Looking ahead

• April 1, 8th grade visitation.  Our students dismiss at 11:00am. (We will still meet for periods 1, 2 & 6, Look for an e-mail from Carrie Johnson with the schedule for this day)
• April 2, Spring Showcase Open house.  5:00pm welcome remarks, 5:30-7:00pm school -wide open house.
