Happy New Year~ January 7-11, 2019

CELEBRATING SUCCESS...
Welcome back and happy new year!
As we transition our minds from being on a break to the anticipation of being back at school and the semester ahead I am guessing the feeling might be bittersweet for some. I have enjoyed the break and hope you have too and I am excited to get back to work and look forward to seeing you all. Happy new year!

Our students might need a little nudging toward the sweet side as they return to the routine of school. You likely have ideas in your back- to -school plans, but if not please consider this a gentle reminder to take a deliberate pause to reconnect with your students, possibly reflect on their start of the school year goals, create goals, or just answer a simple prompt about how their life is going, or something about what you both need to know to help students learn today and of course, for the balance of the school year.

In the spirit of reflecting on goals, I have included this year's school goals from our strategic plan below.

Goal #1: The CHS learning community will foster positive academic relationships that ensure the achievement of rigorous learning expectations.
  • The continuation and expansion of instructional rounds.
  • Learn about the benefits of the ACT Suite to help improve academic achievement.
Goal #2: The CHS learning community will embrace, value, and advocate for diversity.
  • On-going professional development regarding equity, diversity, and inclusivity
  • Training and assemblies for students
Goal #3: The CHS learning community will display the characteristics of high achieving, ambitious learners.
  • Improved performance data by grade level. Now that AzMerit is no longer a measurement tool, we will establish success criteria with each grade level team of teachers.
  • Increase in the number of scholarship applications from the senior class
  • 50% of Flinn eligible students will complete the applications for the Flinn scholarship (8 or 9 students of 17 eligible)
Goal #4: The CHS learning community will systematically analyze curriculum and assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
  • Develop a data team to help guide the process
  • Learn about and share academic data regularly

Many of you have expressed an interest in more technology-based professional development opportunities.  I am happy to announce that at the end of this month, on January 30, Renda Fisk from the district technology department will be offering a workshop on Google Classroom here at CHS. The course will be divided into two sessions, one for beginners and another for intermediate/advanced. Please respond to the quick survey about which level you feel is most suitable for your needs by clicking here.
