Mid Summer Post July 18, 2016

What to say when you look at the calendar and realize there are only a few weeks left of summer...
Time to write a blog post.  It is not quite time to welcome everyone back, but thought I would send a glimpse of some good news and what to expect as we start the 2016-17 School Year. In the meantime keep swinging in the hammock and enjoying the lazy days of summer.

Celebrating Success
What to say when your office mate says "I have some great news to tell you"...
You have to share this Cris!
The good news from Cris:
Academic Update
After looking over AZMerit data, and classroom level data the old adage “slow and steady wins the race” comes to mind. Each and every year for the last four years our students have made significant academic gains. This is a reflection on the wonderful teaching staff here at CHS, the culture of collaboration, and the beginnings of a robust academic intervention approach where every student can be successful.
I want to share with you the increase in our AZMerit scores from the spring of 2015 to the spring of 2016. We increased in every area!
ELA/ Math Spring 2015 Percentage Passing
ELA/ Math Spring 2016 Percentage Passing
ELA 9- 13%
ELA 9- 30%
ELA 10- 16%
ELA 10- 21%
ELA 11- 14%
ELA 11- 20%
Algebra I- 17%
Algebra I- 26%
Geometry- 18%
Geometry- 30%
Algebra II- 16%
Algebra II- 25%

Congratulations CHS!!! Remember leaps in performance are neither miraculous nor accidental.  They are the result of clear direction and hard work. Way to go CHS!
This information gives us much to celebrate and much to ponder.
How do we continue to make these remarkable gains?
The importance of formative assessments, meaningful feedback, and timely intervention,  to name a few.

I look forward to the 2016-2017 school year as we continue on this very exciting path together.
Cris
